How much does a funeral cost

As funeral insurance benefits are generally paid very quickly following your death and completion of a claim form, your beneficiaries should have access to the benefit in a time frame that is suitable for the payment of any costs associated with your passing.

A funeral can cost anywhere from $6,000 to over $20,000. This potential high cost can leave your loved ones attempting to pay for something they cannot afford in such a short period of time.

General costs may include but are not limited to:

  • Coffin: $780 – $3250
  • Casket: $5000 – $11,800
  • Flowers: $200+
  • Service: $1600
  • 10 person Limousine hire: $600
  • Funeral notice: $500 – $1500
  • Burial: $3500
  • Cremation: $900 – $3400
  • Doctors certificate: $60
  • Death certificate $25 – $49

Please note these are general costs and they may differ between providers. It is always important to speak to your adviser or speak to an independent funeral home to find out more exact costs when you are comparing funeral insurance.

How insurance can help

The funeral insurance lump sum benefit is generally paid very quickly following your death, allowing your family/beneficiaries access to the funds.

The benefit your family or beneficiaries receive can be up to $30,000, not only helping your family pay for your funeral, but also allowing you, together with your family, choose the funeral service you want.

Your beneficiaries may also use the benefit anyway they see fit including for any other costs associated with your death or for some short term financial assistance.
