What is a Healthy Lifestyle?

A healthy lifestyle is a way of living that helps your whole family. When you don’t take care of your health you place yourself at risk of becoming overweight and in some cases developing a chronic disease.

Chronic diseases can place an increase burden on your family. Financial pressure to pay your medical bills and possibly an emotional and physical burden because they might have to take care of you.

Not all diseases are preventable, but a large proportion of deaths and disability cases are generally avoidable, especially coronary heart disease and lung cancer. In the year 2011 to 2012 almost two in every three Australian adults, aged 18 years and older, were overweight or obese. Being overweight or obese increases your risk of developing:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Breast and colon cancer
  • Hypertension
  • High cholesterol
  • Stroke
  • Liver and gallbladder disease
  • Respiratory problems and sleep apnoea
  • Osteoporosis
  • Infertility
ClearView’s Health Maintenance Rewards program encourages you to look after your health by supporting you committing to a few simple actions, like maintaining a healthy weight and scheduling regular visits with your doctor.

Both New and Existing Customers Benefit

When you first apply for cover from Clearview (Life, TPD, Income Protection Plus and/or Business Expense Cover), you’ll receive a New Cover Reward discount of 10%. This discount is built into your first year’s premium.
Existing customers simply providing a basic information update to ClearView, via an online questionnaire, every two years. Information required include:
  • Your current height and weight
  • Whether you’ve seen a doctor in the last three years, and
  • If you’ve taken up smoking since your last application

A positive review of your answers will result in your discount being reset to 10%. You will NOT be penalised if you do not qualify you for the 10% discount as a result of poor health. Other benefits include:

  • No extra fees
  • No additional underwriting
  • No extra medical tests or examinations

If You Decide not to Complete the Survey

If you opted not to complete the survey, then the New Cover Reward discount you received at the start, will decrease by 1% every year over the next 10 years of your policy.

However, ClearView LifeSolutions will still continue to send you an invitation to apply and reset your discount every two years, even if you have declined in previous years. The choice is entirely up to you.

Whenever you do decide to take up their rewards program and receive a positive review of your questionnaire, your discount will immediately be restored to 10%, no matter how long you held the cover for.

  • Smoking versus Vaping |

I gave up smoking over 2 years ago, but moved to vaping (with nicotine, though at less than half the amount) – Would I be classed as a smoker or not for the purposes of my insurance premium?

      Russell |

Well done for giving up smoking! As you know many people use nicotine replacements products such as champix, Nicabate, and e-cigarrets (with nicotine) while they transition from cigarette smoking to none smoking and the success rate of this transition is not certain.

Therefore generally insurers will only rate you as a non-smoker once you have been off nicotine products for at least 12 months.
